The Advantages of Tracking GMP Material by Sub batches

On December 13, 2022

Pharmaceutical and biotech companies need to track each single product unit and this has been a consistent problem when implementing ERP systems. For instance, standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations (D365) can manage and track material at batch level only.

In situations where the management of single product units is critical, AX for Pharma 365™ (AXP365) provides the ability to track containers (i.e., sub batches) in all processes within the system (e.g. warehouse movements, production, and weighing & dispensing operations).

How Does It Work?

When receiving material, either via the warehouse management app or the D365 client, the user has the ability to create both batches and sub batches. AXP365™ allows to register the quantity of each sub batch together with GMP information such as vendor batch number, vendor expiration date, and vendor manufacturing date.

Once the material has been received in the system as batches and sub batches, AXP365™ offers visibility down to each single product unit, such as vials or drums.

When moving material, the user can select the specific sub batch that needs to be moved throughout the warehouse while checking the compatibility of storage conditions/attributes and while leaving a compliant electronic trail. When production orders are generated in the system, sub batches can be reserved to be picked in real time via the mobile device app. These are all examples of how sub batches provide more visibility of your GMP products and also allow you to take full advantage of the AX for Pharma 365™ solution.

What Can You Do with AX for Pharma 365™?

AX for Pharma 365 customers have gained the capability to label each container with a unique ID, track it, and know exactly where it is placed and how much quantity it has. This is extremely useful if different containers have different attributes such as shelf-life date, or have been released for a different intended use such as commercial manufacturing vs R&D, or have unique storage conditions. Users also can block a specific sub batch. If a sub batch is damaged, the user would simply block or stop the sub batch in AXP365 to prevent consumption or shipment while deciding whether it should be removed or scraped from the inventory.

With the addition of sub batches in D365, AX for Pharma 365’s solution provides the ability to manage material at a more granular level and also opens the door to utilize the full AX for Pharma’s suite of products, including the fully integrated weighing and dispensing system.

By tracking GMP material by sub batches, AX for Pharma 365™ is a solution that can streamline the day-to-day operations and support business growth while ensuring the necessary compliance with guidelines and regulations.
